Amsterdam Art City 2009 In 2009 Amsterdam will be an Art City. The city will be brimming over with cultural attractions. There will be a tremendous range of remarkable exhibitions for you to visit. And two important museums will be opening their doors to the public: the Hermitage Amsterdam and the new Stedelijk Museum.
More information and programming you will be able to find it on the website:

Cycle route Clic here for a nice cycle tour to the countryside of Waterland with Marken, Volendam, Monickendam and Broek in Waterland.
City walks The best way to explore the city is with a local Amsterdammer! Join one of the walks guided by a volunteer of the Gilde Amsterdam ‘Mee in Mokum’. Mokum is a slang name for Amsterdam. The guides are all over the age of 50 and have lived in the city for many years. They show you Amsterdam from their personal perspective. You may choose from two walks: the old inner city and the Jordaan. Mee in Mokum works with small groups and small prices, and the tours are in Dutch, English, German and French.
Museums Amsterdam has a lot of interesting museums, more than 35. For a summary go to:
Or go directly to the most important museums:

The famous paintings and highlights of the Golden Age.

The hiding place where Anne Frank wrote her diary during World War Two. TIP: Buy tickets online!

Volendam, Edam, Marken Volendam, Edam and Marken are the most famous villages, but there are more interresting villages on the Zuiderzee. The name of the old Zuiderzee has ceased to exist for many years. The fame of this enormous treasure trove around the presently called IJsselmeer is still brought to life every day in the dozens of old towns and villages. Together this collection of rich, special and surprising places form The Golden Circle. A journey of discovery definitely worth making. For more information:
Cycle route Clic here for a nice cycle tour to the countryside of Waterland with Marken, Volendam, Monickendam and Broek in Waterland.
Zaanse Schans, windmills The Zaanse Schans is a delightful old hamlet on the banks of the river Zaan with characteristic green wooden houses, charming styalised gardens, small hump-backed bridges, tradesmen's workshops, historic windmills and engaging little shops. This enchanting hamlet gives an excellent impression of how a typical Zaanse village must have looked like in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. For more information:
